Chameleons are divided into 7 different genera depending on where they are found, physical description, and other habits
that group species together.
The genera's are as follows:
Bradypodion are considered to be the dwarph chameleons. Most members of this genus are fairly
small. They are mostly exclusive to Tanzania and surrounding areas.
Brookesia are extremely unique among chameleons. They are members of leaf chameleons and are
exclusive to the forest floors of Madagascar.
Calumma contains the largest chameleon in the world. These chameleons are also exclusive to
Madagascar.
Chamaeleo contains the Veiled chameleon. These chameleons are widespread with some species
as far north as southern Europe.
Furcifer contains the Panther chameleon. This genera too live exclusively in Madagascar.
Rhampholeon contains another genera of the leaf chameleons. These little creatures hail from
Tanzania and surrounding area.
Rieppeleon is a newly defined genera seperating some members within the rhampholeon genera.
These too are mostly Tanzanian.
